Valentine's Day Yarnbombing

We don't usually do much for Valentine's Day - a book, a CD, something like that - but this year I decided to yarnbomb the tree outside our house with knitted and crocheted hearts, for something completely different.  Amusingly, George is so used to me doing bits and pieces of 'stuff' that I made all the components with no attempt to conceal them, and he asked me when I had found time to make it!  I got the kids to help me tie it onto the tree and we had heaps on fun (and yes, they are 19 and 16!).

I kept it up there for about a month...

I was going to take it down after a week, but after finding this note attached to it I decided that I would keep it up longer.  I don't know who left the note but I was so chuffed to find such a sweet recognition of what I had done!

Completely Random Installation

I should say that this is a carefully planned mixed media installation.  It is, in fact, a random pile of stuff I picked up to sort out while we were emptying George's mum's house.  I realised that I could not have come up with anything as surreal as this if I tried!

A  quilt; a piece of brown paper; a handmade vintage doily; a vintage hankie; a vintage nappy pin; and a rubber crocodile.

There's clearly no point in my trying to do clever dioramas or installations - nothing could beat the randomness of this!

A Fresh Start

Obviously no blogging has happened since I made it halfway through Blogtoberfest last year.  Our family has been through a lot since then, including me giving up my job properly and my much-loved MiL  dying.  There has been a lot of taking things one day at a time, for all of us.

But I have a sudden yearning to return to blogging, and especially reading other people's blogs again.  This poor thing needs cleaning up, too, there's too many doodads in the sidebar and everything.

So, I can't promise much, but I intend to spend a bit of time tending this weedy patch, catching up with people online, and posting some pictures again.  I have continued to knit and do other crafty things during the past months, though no real designing until recently when I created two entries for the Alice Springs Beanie Festival.  I was going to go to the Festival with George but that's had to be cancelled, unfortunately.  But the entries are being sent Express Post tomorrow!
